Bristol Business School integrates Vivocco™Career into MBA Programme

Introduction to case study

Creative Metier worked with the leader of the PDP Module of the MBA Programme to integrate Vivocco™Career into the programme.

Participants said that they:

  • Were clearer about their long term direction
  • Have increased motivation to work in the group alongside fellow students
  • Have a greater clarity about their priorities
  • Have increased self awareness of my strengths (skills, talent and aspirations) and areas for development

Client: Bristol Business School – Dr Peter Simpson, Director of the MBA and Executive Education

Situation: The Director of the Full Time MBA at Bristol Business School, University of West of England (UWE), wanted to introduce leading edge tools and online resources during the intensive 12 month programme. UWE prides itself in the depth of career and personal development that it provides for students. The Business School considers this to be critical in delivering world class provision for MBA students.

Creative Metier worked with the leader of the PDP Module of the MBA to integrate the programme now known as Vivocco™Career into the module. Students had access to the online resource and hard copy workbook. Results were shared in weekly group sessions throughout the autumn term.

Bristol Business School wanted to ensure that students made best use of the resources available to them on the MBA; clarified individual strengths and aspirations and fully participated in group review sessions to ensure the development of relationships within the learning group.

It was also critical that the programme worked well in a multi-cultural context. Nine nationalities were represented in the fourteen participants on the programme..

Results:
More than 60% of participants said that they were clearer about their long term direction and over 70% of the participants agreed with the following statements:

“I have a greater clarity about my priorities”

“They also helped me to see how we can best interact to learn together”

“I have increased motivation now to work in the group alongside my fellow students”

“I have increased self awareness of my strengths (skills, talent and aspirations) and areas for development”

“I have an increased awareness of a wider network of people (peers, lecturers, significant others etc) who can support me”

The programme worked well in the multicultural context and the group was  exceptionally well integrated right from the start of the programme.

The Business School plans to use Vivocco™Career on future MBA programmes, and on other executive and bespoke client programmes. Creative Metier will be training UWE staff to facilitate Vivocco™Career, transferring capability into the Business School and reducing costs of delivery.

Case study quote

We are very excited about the integration of Vivocco™Career with our MBA. Students are making a significant investment in their careers and we want to do everything we can to help in this, particularly at a time when they are facing an increasingly competitive job market. Our experience on the MBA this year is that there were some who found working with Vivocco™Career a genuinely transformational experience, both in terms of deepening their self awareness and in gaining a new sense of direction in their careers.
